Recap from 16th March at Harmeny

Here it is, this week from Cameron:

“We went out to Harmeny school which is in Balerno. It’s a boarding school for chiden with ‘complex Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs’. They have been setting up a garden which we have been helping with, on this project, we did a variety of tasks including: making a cold box, clearing a slope of soil and making a retaining wall out of tyres, turning compost, weeding and spreading manure on a veg patch, and attaching wooden frames for climbing plants to the wall of the shed. This one is always a fantastic project, since the impact the work each person has done is obvious and it’s nice to be able to help make the school nice for the kids  :)”

Unfortunately no pictures for this one, but there are from yesterday – so you can look forward to that!

Edit: We now have pictures from the project (from Josephine): Full Gallery

This Sunday – Revisiting Currie Wood

Here is a message from the project coordinators about this Sunday (23rd March)

“Spring-ding-ding-ding-ding!
We’re celebrating the miracle that is spring this Sunday by visiting one of our classic but nonetheless fabulous sites – Currie Wood!

We will be ring-barking and felling trees. Think axes, think billhooks, think two (wo)man saws!

You all know the drill. Meet at the tool cupboard  by the pleasance CSE at 10 am. Please bring sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing and water to drink.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.”

Also a quick reminder that the AGM is coming up soon, see previous post here for details.

A recap of last Sunday will be up soon.

Important! Sunday’s project and the AGM

Project

This Sunday we’ll be heading to Harmeny School in Balerno! Here is a message from our project coordinators:

“There’s a long list of tasks for us to do including:
– Make a car tyre retaining wall
– Build a cold frame
– Remove turf from areas we want to plant up in the forest garden
– Sheet mulch areas for planting
– Create a keyhole garden
– Weeding and adding pebbles to paths
– Building a compost heap
If that doesn’t grab your fancy then I don’t know what will do!
We’ll meet at 10 am at the tool cupboard. Please bring water and appropriate footwear and clothing.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Much love,
Incredinina and BamBamalicious “

The AGM

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Friday 4th April (the last day of the semester). The Cairngorm Room in Pleasance (first right as you enter the courtyard via the Northeast entrance) has been booked for the purpose. Please arrive at 6:45pm for a 7pm meeting start. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

At the AGM we elect the new committee and debate any constitutional amendments.

If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please speak the current officer and ask about the role (the roles can be found listed here).

If you want to table any amendments to our constitution (current copy available here), then please submit these to edinburghdirtyweekenders@gmail,com by 5pm Thursday 20th March to allow sufficient time to distribute them before the meeting. If you want advice on how to lay out the motion, just ask Matt or Anna.
