Dirties out west!

I woke up from my slumber in some vaguely western related place. I put the spurs onto my boots and saddled up my trusty horse that is somehow wheeled and has handlebars. Today we were heading to the town of Harmeny, having received message that some bandits were holed up in the saloon!

I rode out as fast as I could, which took about an hour but I was late setting off due to a standoff I had with the rogue sheriff known only as ‘Overslept’. The standoff went something like this:

Me: ‘we meet again’

Sherriff: ‘that we do’

Me: ‘this town ain’t big enough for the both of us’

Sheriff: ‘stop being cliché with your shoddy pseudo-western writing’

Bang bang bang, then the sheriff of overslept was vanquished.

I got to Harmeny a bit late and had missed some western style activities, lighting mathces off people’s faces or some such fun. The good Sheriff Sam, was there and had instructed us to the location of the bandits, which somehow resembled rocks piled up. We readied our guns and made haste in removing them from the town (piled them up in the corner). We then made a keyhole shaped bed for growing things with the remains! (more rocks). Then a man with a harmonica kept playing eerie tunes (get the reference eh?). We then weeded some beds and did some mulching, and the weather was fantastic. I have an assignment to be getting on with so maybe there will be more in the western saga next year!

First project!

Welcome (old and new!) to the wonderful world of dirties wordpress!

The first project of the semester is on Saturday 13th September, where we will be clearing gorse bushes for firebreaks in Holyrood park with loppers and saws! We’ll meet at 10am in Bristo Square and will get back around 4.30pm, you’re also welcome to come and go as you please. We will provide a yummy free homemade lunch! Afterwards we’ll head to the Auld Hoose pub for Nachos and good beer. So come prepared to have an awesome time, meeting new people and getting into some good old conservation tasks! Don’t forget to bring some water, a waterproof, decent shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wrecked.

Can’t wait till Saturday?

Come find us at the societies fair on Wednesday and Thursday, 11am – 4pm in the highland room at the Pleasence. We will also be in the Auld Hoose pub on Thursday at 9pm.

We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Easter Special

A fortnight ago Rosie and Rachel organised an egg hunt around Arthur’s Seat. They used easter as an excuse, but really it was all about the chocolate. Here is what Rosie had to write about the day:

“Rosie and Rachel put on a smashing great show. Starting in the morning with egg painting wonderful designs were to behold upon many a shell. Some keenly then went on to hunt eggs while others chose breakfast (at about 2pm? We’ll call it brunch). Finally when all of the Easter Bunny’s leavings had been found (without any sort of assistance ever), we rolled. It was epic. The eggs turned fast and chaotic. No one really knew which was theirs untill they found the remains. And yet, two had not completely smashed. And so what choice was there? But to ROLL AGAIN. The smaller egg one. A few went for a walk. Then pub. Then home. Happy Easter.”
