Our last project of the semester – Roslin Glen 30th March

As I’m sure you will know, lectures have ended and revision time is upon us. This meant that we had our last project of 2013-2014 last Sunday. We went to Roslin Glen and Nina has our write-up for it in the form of a series of Haikus:

“Last project this year

Upon Roslin we decended

Allan met us there

Our numbers were few

Each one keen and pure at heart

Unafraid of work

Paths were redressed

Wind-grit was barrelled and spread

Muddy feet, no longer

Apple and birch were planted

Habitat piles – piled up

Happy hedgehog homes

Biscuit tins were opened

Legendary sandwiches, yum

Every belly full

Three brave and strong souls

Tackled a big stump with tools

Alas, the stump won

A brick hunt began

Planted out of sight they rest

Weeds met their makers

With Roslin at heart

Back up the long hill we climbed

See you next season”

Projects may be over, but don’t worry! We will still meet at the pub on Sundays and Thursdays. There may yet be other social events before, and maybe even during summer – so keep your eyes on the blog and the facebook for updates.

Recap from 16th March at Harmeny

Here it is, this week from Cameron:

“We went out to Harmeny school which is in Balerno. It’s a boarding school for chiden with ‘complex Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs’. They have been setting up a garden which we have been helping with, on this project, we did a variety of tasks including: making a cold box, clearing a slope of soil and making a retaining wall out of tyres, turning compost, weeding and spreading manure on a veg patch, and attaching wooden frames for climbing plants to the wall of the shed. This one is always a fantastic project, since the impact the work each person has done is obvious and it’s nice to be able to help make the school nice for the kids  :)”

Unfortunately no pictures for this one, but there are from yesterday – so you can look forward to that!

Edit: We now have pictures from the project (from Josephine): Full Gallery

Important! Sunday’s project and the AGM

This Sunday we’ll be heading to Harmeny School in Balerno! Here is a message from our project coordinators:

“There’s a long list of tasks for us to do including:

– Remove turf from areas we want to plant up in the forest garden
– Sheet mulch areas for planting

– Weeding and adding pebbles to paths
– Building a compost heap
If that doesn’t grab your fancy then I don’t know what will do!

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Much love,
Incredinina and BamBamalicious “

The AGM

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Friday 4th April (the last day of the semester). The Cairngorm Room in Pleasance (first right as you enter the courtyard via the Northeast entrance) has been booked for the purpose. Please arrive at 6:45pm for a 7pm meeting start. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

At the AGM we elect the new committee and debate any constitutional amendments.

If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please speak the current officer and ask about the role (the roles can be found listed here).

If you want to table any amendments to our constitution (current copy available here), then please submit these to edinburghdirtyweekenders@gmail,com by 5pm Thursday 20th March to allow sufficient time to distribute them before the meeting. If you want advice on how to lay out the motion, just ask Matt or Anna.
